Frequently Asked Questions

How does Blink Tracker detect blinks?

Blink Tracker uses your Mac’s camera and Apple’s Vision framework to detect face landmarks in real time. It calculates the Eye Aspect Ratio (EAR) for both eyes on each video frame. When your EAR drops below a threshold (eyes closing) and then returns above it (eyes opening), a blink is registered.

Does Blink Tracker record video or store my camera data?

No. Camera frames are processed in real time and immediately discarded. Nothing is saved to disk, uploaded, or transmitted. Blink Tracker makes zero network calls.

Why is the green camera light on?

The green indicator is a macOS system feature that shows whenever any app is using the camera. It confirms Blink Tracker is actively monitoring your blinks. The light turns off when you pause or quit Blink Tracker.

Can I use Blink Tracker with an external webcam?

Yes. Blink Tracker works with any camera your Mac recognizes, including built-in FaceTime cameras, USB webcams, and iPhone via Continuity Camera.

How do I change the alert interval?

Click the Blink Tracker icon in the menu bar, hover over “Alert after…”, and select your preferred interval (10s, 15s, 20s, 30s, 45s, or 60s).

How do I mute notifications?

Click the Blink Tracker icon in the menu bar and select “Mute Notifications” (Cmd+M). Your blink rate is still monitored and stats continue updating, but no notification banners will appear. Select “Unmute Notifications” to turn them back on.

How do I pause monitoring?

Click the Blink Tracker icon in the menu bar and select “Pause” (Cmd+P). The camera stops, stats freeze, and no alerts are sent. Select “Resume” to start again.

Blink Tracker isn't detecting my blinks accurately.

Blink detection accuracy depends on several factors: Lighting — make sure your face is well-lit from the front. Camera angle — face the camera directly. Distance — sit at a normal working distance (50-70cm). Glasses — reflective lenses may interfere. Camera quality — higher resolution cameras produce better results.

I'm not receiving notification reminders.

Check that notifications are enabled in the menu bar. Make sure “Mute Notifications” is not checked. Go to System Settings > Notifications > Blink Tracker and ensure alerts are allowed. If you have a Focus mode active, Blink Tracker notifications may be silenced.

Does Blink Tracker drain my battery?

Blink Tracker is designed to be lightweight. It uses the camera at low resolution (352x288) to minimize power consumption. However, continuous camera use does consume some battery. You can pause monitoring when you don’t need it.

What version of macOS do I need?

Blink Tracker requires macOS 13 Ventura or later.

How do I quit Blink Tracker?

Click the Blink Tracker icon in the menu bar and select “Quit Blink Tracker” (Cmd+Q).
