Privacy Policy

CertStreak (“the App”) is developed by Octo8 (“we”, “us”, or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.

The Short Version

CertStreak is a local-first app: your study progress lives on your device and the App works fully without an account. An account exists for exactly one purpose — backing your progress up so you can restore it on a new device. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand feature usage, never to track you across other apps. No ads, no selling of personal data.

1. Information We Collect

Without an account: no personal information is collected. Your study data — question outcomes, practice-exam results, streaks, study statistics, notes, exam dates — is stored only on your device. If you delete the App without creating an account, this data is permanently deleted with it.

If you create an account (optional):

Your email address (used for sign-in and nothing else)
Your backup: which exams you added, practice-exam results, real-exam sittings you logged, per-question notes, daily activity counts, and your daily goal

Backups are stored with our database provider Supabase in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany), protected by row-level security so that only your authenticated account can read or write your rows.

2. Analytics

We use Google Firebase Analytics and Mixpanel to understand how the App’s features are used — for example, which study modes are popular or where the App loses people. What this looks like in practice:

Events describe feature usage (e.g., “a practice session was completed”, “the paywall was viewed”) with coarse parameters such as an exam code or a screen name.
Your subscription tier (“free” or “pro”) is attached as a property so we can improve both experiences.
If you have an account, your account identifier connects your usage across your own devices. We do not send your email address to analytics providers.
We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. The App shows no App Tracking Transparency prompt because it does not track.

3. Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through your Apple ID. We never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to reconcile subscription state (an anonymous app user ID and transaction metadata from Apple) — the minimum necessary to know that a subscription is active.

4. Notifications

Daily reminders and exam-date countdowns are local notifications, scheduled entirely on your device. No push infrastructure, no tokens, nothing leaves your phone.

5. What We Never Do

No ads and no advertising SDKs
No selling or renting of personal data
No cross-app or cross-site tracking; no IDFA
No reading of your notes or study content for any purpose other than storing your backup

6. Data Retention & Deletion

On-device data: under your control; deleting the App deletes it.
Backups: kept while your account exists. Deleting your account permanently deletes your backup and authentication record.
Analytics: retained per Firebase and Mixpanel default retention settings and not linked to your email.

You can request deletion at any time from within the App or by emailing us.

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data, and to object to its processing. Backups are hosted in the EU. To exercise any right, contact us at the address below — we respond to every request.

8. Children

CertStreak is a professional certification study tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the “Last Updated” date. Material changes will be highlighted in the App.
