Please read these Terms of Use (“Terms”) carefully before using WordLocker (“the App”) developed by Octo8 (“we”, “us”, or “our”).

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using WordLocker, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Description of the App

WordLocker is an iOS application designed to teach users CEFR-calibrated English vocabulary. The App:

Provides a 3-stage learning flow (Card Review, Matching, Spelling)
Uses a spaced repetition algorithm
Can optionally block distracting apps using Apple’s Screen Time API
Offers extended features through a premium subscription

3. License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use WordLocker on any iPhone or iPad you own or control, in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

4. Account (Optional)

WordLocker can be used anonymously. If you choose to create an account:

You agree to provide accurate and current information
You are responsible for the security of your account
You will notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
If you are under 13, parental consent is required

5. Subscription and Payment

WordLocker offers two subscription plans:

Weekly: $4.99/week (3-day free trial)
Annual: $24.99/year (7-day free trial)

Subscription terms:

All payments are processed through the Apple App Store
Your subscription auto-renews unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends
You can cancel anytime in your Apple ID settings
If you cancel during the free trial, you will not be charged
Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you start a paid subscription

6. Screen Time Usage

WordLocker can optionally use Apple’s FamilyControls framework to block apps you select. By enabling this feature:

Blocking happens entirely on your device
Only you know which apps you’ve blocked (by Apple’s privacy design)
You can revoke Screen Time permission anytime in System Settings
App blocking is fully optional — you can use the app without it

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
Use the App for any unlawful purpose
Redistribute, sublicense, or resell the App
Remove any copyright or proprietary notices from the App
Use automated tools to complete challenges or manipulate statistics

8. Intellectual Property

WordLocker, including its name, logo, design, vocabulary content, and code, is the intellectual property of Octo8. The English words and definitions used in our vocabulary pool are in the public domain; original content (example sentences, translations) is protected by copyright. All rights not expressly granted in these Terms are reserved.

9. Educational Disclaimer

WordLocker is a learning aid:

It does not replace an accredited English course or teacher guidance
For formal exams (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, etc.), supplement WordLocker with additional resources
CEFR level detection is approximate; for precise level assessment, we recommend professional evaluation
Learning outcomes depend on usage frequency and individual factors

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Octo8 shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

Loss of data (especially in anonymous mode if device is lost or wiped)
Loss of streaks or learning data
Failures of the blocking feature (due to Screen Time API limitations)
Failure to reach exam or academic goals
Service interruption

arising out of or related to your use of WordLocker.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

WordLocker is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

12. Termination

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App at any time without notice. You can cancel your subscription anytime in App Store settings, and delete your account by emailing [email protected]. You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised “Last Updated” date. For material changes we will notify you in-app. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable in your jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles. Statutory consumer rights are preserved.
