Privacy Policy

Arete is built to be private by design. The short version: your practice belongs to you and lives on your device. We don't run accounts, we don't sell data, and we don't track you across other apps.

What stays on your device

Your quests, completions, XP, streaks, journal lines, and daily check-ins are stored on your iPhone. You do not create an account to use Arete.

iCloud sync

If you are signed into iCloud, your game progress (quests, completions, levels) syncs privately across your own devices through Apple's iCloud, under your Apple ID. This uses Apple's private CloudKit database — Octo8 cannot see it. Sensitive content is deliberately excluded from sync: health readings, journal text, mood and capacity states, and any location are never placed in iCloud in an identifiable, shared, or analytics-visible form.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

If you connect Apple Health, Arete reads samples — such as steps, workouts, or mindful minutes — only to check whether a quest is complete. The reading is evaluated and then discarded. Arete does not store your health values, does not upload them, and does not include them in analytics. You control which data types you share, per type, and you can revoke access at any time in the Health app.

Analytics

To understand how the app is used and to improve it, Arete records a small set of product-usage events (for example: a quest was completed, a screen was viewed) through Mixpanel. This is enforced by construction — the app has no way to send a health value, a quest title, journal text, a mood state, or a location into analytics. Events carry only coarse, non-identifying properties (counts, categories). No advertising identifiers are collected and there is no cross-app or cross-website tracking, so Arete never shows an App Tracking Transparency prompt.

Purchases

Arete Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, which handles subscription status. Payment details are handled by Apple; Octo8 never receives your card information.

Notifications

Reminders and alarms you set are scheduled locally on your device. They are not used for marketing.

Children

Arete is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13.

Your rights & deletion

Because your data lives on your device, you are in control of it. Deleting the app removes its on-device data. To remove synced game progress, you can also delete Arete's data from iCloud in your device's iCloud settings. For any privacy question, email us.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its date. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
